Red Rose Inn

This artwork represents the historical Red Rose Inn at the crossroads of old U.S. Route I and Route 796, in Jennersville, southern Chester County, Pennsylvania. It was originally built to serve settlers and Indians, and was known as the "1740 Room".

In 1829, the name was changed to Red Rose Inn and an extension was added with rooms consisting of uneven, wide plank flooring, great fireplaces, candlelight and antique furnishings. Good food was, and still is, standard fare for hungry travelers.

To this day, it is alleged that several ghosts inhabit the Inn. Among them was a character named Indian Joe. He was charged with the murder of an early innkeeper’s daughter and found not guilty, however, not until after he had been hanged and buried in the cellar of the original "1740 Room".
